What can the Sony HDR-FX1 do?

1080i High Definition Video
A revolution in form and function, the HDR-FX1 allows you to play and record interlaced high definition video at resolutions up to 1440 x 1080 for professional quality video with vivid colors and striking detail.

Real Time HD Codec Engine
A Sony developed Real Time MPEG encoding and decoding system that provides efficient MPEG-2 compression. With the Real Time HD Codec Engine, recording and playback of high definition video is possible on the same cassettes used for MiniDV recording.


Three-chip Advanced HAD™ CCD Imaging System
Images are captured on three-chip Advanced HAD™ CCD system that provides increased detail and improved video performance without the color bleeding found in other system. The enhanced CCD design also allows for more light to reach the imager, which reduces video noise and improves signal-to-noise ratio by up to 6db (2x better than a standard CCD).


Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar® T* Lens with 12X Optical Zoom
From the authority in lens technology, the Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar® T* lens provides a high quality 12x optical zoom which maintains image clarity and color while reducing glare and flare.

Standard Mini DV.
With the flip of a switch the HDR-FX1 can record standard Mini DV.


Can I edit HDV 1080i on my computer?
You can edit the HDV1080i now on your PC using products from CineForm (http://www.cineform.com) and Adobe Premier Pro or Sony Vegas 5. Mac users can edit it using a product from Lumiere HD (http://www.lumierehd.com) and Final Cut Pro. Other editing system companies will have products out soon.

Can I mix HDV and HDcam?
Not directly, but you can dub HDV to HDcam for B-roll, or you can render it out of your edit system as HDcam.

Can Shoot HDV and down convert to Standard NTSC?
Yes, and it will look fantastic. Tests that we have run, show that video shot on HDR-FX1 can be rendered out for standard resolution video or DVD projects and the results are far better than any other camera in it's price range and some which are far above.

How can I get balanced audio into the HDRE-FX1?
We provide a Beachtek audio adapter with the camera which will allow you to use professional audio line and mic level signals.
